THERE were 410 bicycles stolen in Worcestershire during 2019 but only three of those were recovered by police and returned to their owners.

The huge number of unsolved cases was revealed after the Standard put in a Freedom of Information request to West Mercia Police.

Out of those 410 cases only 13 people were charged with theft of a bicycle.

In Redditch 54 bikes were recorded as stolen in 2019 and 34 in Bromsgrove.

None of those were returned to their owners.

A West Mercia Police spokesman said: “Information about bicycles being returned to owners is not routinely recorded and therefore the figures will reflect that.

“However, every effort has been made to ensure that the information provided by our ASI department is as accurate as possible.”
