UPTON has become the latest town in Worcestershire to benefit from 4G mobile coverage.
The new mast will provide coverage across the town as well as the surrounding villages of Ryall, Tunnell Hill and Newbridge Green.
Since the start of 2017, O2 has launched 4G in more than 90 locations across the county including Bewdley, Tenbury Wells, Offenham, Naunton and Little Malvern.
The mobile provider is also a partner in the successful bid by the Worcestershire Local Enterprise Partnership (WLEP) to host a 5G testbed at the Malvern Hills Science Park.
This testbed will provide a platform for businesses to develop next-generation technology for when 5G launches.
When it becomes available, 5G will allow for the future delivery of critical services such as connected transport across the UK.
West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin said: “I have been working hard with the mobile operators to deliver improved phone signals for people who live and work in and around Upton-upon-Severn and I am delighted with the new site from O2 which I hope will see better coverage for its customers.
“For many years people have struggled to make and receive calls in the centre of Upton and I look forward to hearing positive feedback on what difference this mast is making as we approach the peak of the tourist season.
“Delivering a 21st century communications network across Worcestershire will ensure that we are able to keep people connected as well as offering a first-class welcome to tourists and visitors.”
Brendan O’Reilly, chief network officer at O2, added: “We’re committed to improving our network for customers and are delighted to have launched a new 4G site in Upton-upon-Severn which will benefit businesses and the community as a whole.
“This site serves to highlight the importance of key stakeholders working together to ensure investment in our network can go further for our customers.”
