£6million award to county council to fix potholes welcomed by Malvern MP

MALVERN’S MP Harriett Baldwin has welcomed confirmation Worcestershire County Council has been awarded more than £6million to fix potholes this winter.

The cash, which is part of a national £420million fund confirmed by Chancellor Philip Hammond in his budget last month, will be allocated to the county council to fix damaged roads and help with other urgent highway-related repairs.

The investment in the national infrastructure is part of a wider Government commitment to help keep business moving and growing.

“Cold and wet weather inevitably brings road damage and it is really good to see that the Government is planning ahead to help keep our roads in a good condition,” said Mrs Baldwin.

“In my experience, Worcestershire’s roads are pretty good and the processes to report a pothole work well. This cash confirmation will mean that the county highways team is able to act and repair potholes and other weather-related damage quickly and efficiently.”

The cash boost is part of a £43.5million investment in repairs revealed by Roads Minister Jesse Norman.

Next year, the West Midlands will get £110million from the Local Highways Maintenance and Integrated Transport Block funds, which will go towards repairing roads and investing in small safety, bus priority or walking and cycling schemes.

“Potholes are a huge problem for all road users, and too often we see issues occurring at the same place time after time,” Mr Norman said.
