MORE than 65,000 people flocked to the town for the 2015 Malvern Autumn Show.

A feast of family entertainment, floral displays and a star-studded line up were all on show at the 20th anniversary spectacle at the Three Counties Showground at the weekend (September 26 and 27).

Food writer and broadcaster Valentine Warner was just one of the big names to attend, while Otter Farm’s Mark Diacono and BBC Gardeners’ World’s Joe Swift were also present.

VISITORS from across the UK turned out in force in Malvern this weekend as a record-breaking Autumn Show came to the town.

The event saw three world records for Giant Vegetables, a bumper crop of RHS gold medal, the highest ever number of entries for the Home Grown competition and a pumpkin carved to resemble new Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn.

Topping the pile in the Giant Vegetables competition was the world’s longest beetroot at 7.21 metres long, the world’s heaviest cucumber weighing 12.9kg and the world’s heaviest leek at 10.6kg.

There were 300 entries into the vegetable competition – up by ten per cent from last year – along with 1,800 entries in the Home Grown area of the show and more than 40 award-winning nurseries at the RHS Flower Show.

Ken Nottage, chief executive of the Three Counties, said: “What a fantastic end to our 2015 show season here at the Three Counties.

“The sun shone throughout the weekend and the atmosphere has been fantastic.

“We welcomed a wide array of seasonal fayre including many new varieties in both florals and produce, together with the UK Giant Vegetables Championship, which yet again continued to smash more world records.

“The show was a true celebration of the harvest on offer throughout the Three Counties.

“Our team is already steaming ahead with plans for RHS Malvern Spring Festival on May 5 to 8 2016, so watch this space.”

The Autumn Show will take place next year on Saturday, September 24, and Sunday, September 25.
