A Level joy for The Chase School

Malvern Editorial 17th Aug, 2017 Updated: 17th Aug, 2017   0

THE CHASE School has seen another year of fantastic A Level results as nearly a third of all students walked away with A* or A grades.

A record number of pupils (18 per cent) also achieved AAB in at least two facilitating subjects which are normally required to get into the best universities.

The results are perhaps even more remarkable considering the increased demand and challenge of the newly-reformed A Levels which we sat for the first time this year.

Leading the way was Christopher Wright who achieved four A* grades which helped to secure his place at Oxford to study Maths.

Ben Gutteridge, who achieved three A* grades together with one A grade also achieved his place at Oxford while Megan Pickford secured her place at Cambridge to study English with three A grades.

Other noteworthy performances included Ethan Webb who achieved six A Levels, with three A* grades and three A grades; Fergus Cameron, Abigail Morris and Rebecca Wells all achieved three A* grades together with one A grade, and Ben Clarke, Grace Haydon, Jacob Keay, Hannah Ramsey and Sofi Scaife all achieved two A* grades together with at least one other A or B grade.

Meanwhile, Charlotte Aston, Samuel Parker and Ben Smith all achieved two Distinction* grades in Applied Level Three courses together with one C grade at A level.

Mike Fieldhouse, headteacher at The Chase, believes that achieving an A* grade at A level and Distinction* is truly outstanding, requiring the students to average at least 90% across all papers in order to be successful.

He added: “The school is delighted with the performance of all its sixth form students and believed a record number of students had secured a place at their first choice university or on a higher level apprenticeship.

“Studying A levels and other Applied Level Three courses for two further years at The Chase Sixth Form helps to provide the students with the skills and confidence to progress to their choice of employment.

“Our aim is to support all of our students in reaching their potential and facilitating their aspirations for the future.”
