STUDENTS at The Abbey College in Malvern Wells have been working hard to raise more than £600 for a charity close to their hearts.
They held a charity auction and washed cars while pupils throughout the school contributed to collection boxes to support ‘Malvern Welcomes’, a charity which is working to bring a Syrian refugee family to the town.
Prefects gave up their pizza reward allowance for this year, choosing to donate the money saved to the charity.
Principal Malcolm Wood said: “Young people come to study at Abbey College from all over the world.
“We are very proud of the kindness and compassion shown by our students and we encourage them both to work within their local community and to be responsible global citizens.
“They have chosen a commendable charity supporting refugees and making a real contribution to the local community.”
The students hope to hand over the money they have raised at the ‘Springboard to Action’ event on April 14.
It is a day which has been set aside to train volunteers who will be working with the family and any families who will be placed in Malvern in the future.
