Additional date announced for residents to have say on changes to Church Street in Great Malvern

AN ADDITIONAL date has been announced for residents and businesses to have their say on proposed changes to Church Street in Great Malvern.

Worcestershire County Council is proposing to make improvements to the appearance of the road in order to improve access to premises, improve traffic flow and make the area look better.

The additional date is this Saturday during the Malvern Christmas Lights Switch on between 2.30 and 4.30pm.

It follows on from the engagement session held on Edith Walk last Wednesday.

The location for the second session will be at the Malvern District Council stand, outside the Lyttelton Rooms, in the grounds of the Priory.

Coun Ken Pollock, cabinet member with responsibility for economy and infrastructure, said: “Public realm schemes such as these are essential to transform town centres into functional yet attractive spaces where people can visit, shop and enjoy their leisure time.

“We have two options and we’d like to hear the views of residents and businesses on which one they would prefer.”

One of the options is to make no changes to the existing traffic arrangements while option two makes one-way traffic eastbound to reduce congestion as well as offering wider paths for pedestrians.

However, this prohibits travel westbound on Church Street which would increase journey times as well as turning movements to get onto the A449 at the Abbey Road junction.

The wider period of consultation starts on November 10 and finishes on December 22.

Those who have been unable to attend any of the session, but who want to take part in the consultation, should go to www.worcestershire.gov.uk/greatmalvern.
