Adult day care centre gets winter warming grant boost

A DAY care centre for adults with disabilities in Malvern has received a very warm gift this Christmas thanks to a council grant fund.

Malvern Hills District Council’s Rural Fund has granted £2,352 to help Jack’s Place Care CIC purchase a woodburner for their remote day care cabin located on a farm in Berrow, Malvern.

Jack Place Care will fund the other half of the costs as per the agreement of the grant – which comes from the governments the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.

Managing director, Hannah James told the Observer: “We at Jacks Place Care are absolutely delighted to have received the funds towards the purchase of a much needed woodburner.

“The impact will be life changing for us – we can keep our clients warm in winter and really add to the “countryside barn” experience that we offer – particularly in winter and on bad weather days.

“We can also now offer our day care centre up to the wider community as a warm space and we can also start to think about other activities we can offer the community in our beautiful space and setting.

“Thank you so much MHDC”

Grants of between £2,500 and £25,000 were available through the scheme, which stopped taking applications for its second round in November 2023 after initially launching earlier in July.

Councillor Beverley Nielsen, portfolio holder for economic development and tourism at Malvern Hills District Council, said: “We are pleased to give the grant from the Malvern Hills Rural Fund to Jack’s Place Care CIC.

“The funding will go towards providing a heating source for their rural venue in the colder, winter months.

“Jack’s Place CIC is an essential asset to the community and offers adults with learning disabilities a space to come together for activities, conversations, and more”.

The Wychavon Rural Fund is part of the council’s share of the Rural England Shared Prosperity Fund and UK Shared Prosperity Fund provided by the Government as part of its Levelling Up agenda.
