Advice to learn how to be a real lifesaver

Malvern Editorial 8th Sep, 2015 Updated: 20th Oct, 2016   0

MALVERN residents will have the chance to learn how to save a life when St John Ambulance holds a series of sessions in the town.

As part of the service’s annual ‘Save a Life September’, volunteers will be running an event at the Three Counties Showground, from 9am until 5pm next Wednesday (September 9).

Another session will be held on September 12 at the Malvern Hill Challenge between 10am and 6pm.

At the event, residents will be able to see demonstrations of simple techniques which could be the difference between a life lost and a life saved.

The drive also marks the release of the charity’s new comical video starring Rufus Hound.

Well-known comedian and actor Rufus plays a hapless teacher, whose lack of first aid skills leads to disastrous consequences for his pupils and demonstrates why everyone should learn a lesson for life.

From knives embedded into palms to amputated arms, the tongue-in-cheek clip asks the audience to question how equipped they actually are when it comes to first aid. Clearly, Rufus has no skills to speak of whatsoever as he dismisses each injury and tells his students to ‘run it under a cold tap’.

Rufus said: “St John Ambulance is a tremendous organisation and working with them has been super fun.

“I’m delighted to be supporting Save a Life September.

“Although the campaign video is funny, the message behind it is serious: it’s never too late to learn how to save a life.”
