MALVERN’S centurian choir kicks off its 2024-25 programme soon with an Autumn themed special concert.
The 102-year-old Malvern Male Voice Choir’s new programme will begin with a special contribution by keyboard duo Philip Holland and Peter Johnson, performing arrangements of music by Mozart, Grieg, Elgar and Karl Jenkins for organ and piano.
As usual, the choir will be led by its highly regarded musical director Charles Pavey. The Autumn in an Afternoon concert will begin at 3pm at Christ Church, Avenue Road, near Barnards Green in Malvern.
Charles Pavey said: “This is the Choir’s first performance after its summer break and celebrates what makes autumn special.
“The Choir is very pleased to welcome Philip Holland and Peter Johnson although they are already both regular performers at Christ Church.
“Philip is in fact in charge of music at Christ Church where he is the organist and Peter too is an organist at St Matthias Church in Malvern Link.”
The afternoon’s programme will also include a wide variety of both popular and traditional song, covering favourites from musicals, films and a popular TV theme with a seasonal message.
Music particularly suited to the venue will contrast with 1960s pop, including a Beatles classic that perhaps reflects the average age of the choir members.
The evening, which will see the choir play at a venue they do not often frequent, aims to be a ‘feast of music, both serious and lighthearted.’
