A MALVERN mum has been recognised for her efforts supporting families living with children who have challenging disorders.

Kimberly Philpotts of Malvern Vale, has earned a Magnificent Mum award from Autism West Midlands after being nominated by her husband and friends.

Her group ‘What Makes You Different Makes You Beautiful’ launched last September and has provided valuable help to parents since.

It mainly supports families with children who have autistic spectrum disorders, ADHD, Down’s Syndrome, special needs, learning difficulties or any other neurodevelopmental needs.

Kim said: “I was shocked and honoured when I found out about the award. I put hours and hours into each week and it is nice to be recognised. I am just doing it because I am passionate about it.”

Mums who have received direct support from the group paid tribute to Kim’s efforts.

Tracey Farney said: “I battled for six years to get my daughter diagnosed. But from day one Kim bombarded me with information which I didn’t know how to find before.

“Since, I have been able to fight for my daughter and get everyone we need on board.

“Kim has been a great support and friendly face when needed. She is endless with ideas, has always got time for you and is happy to help.”

Bridget Jeffries added: “We have come over from America and this has become my support group where I can come to cry or scream if I have to.

“It’s nice to meet other moms who have gone through the same thing and to go on trips where the kids feel they fit in and are normal.”

The group meets at 10am on the second Monday of every month at the Octagon in Brook Farm Drive, Poolbrook. Admission costs £1 and includes coffee and cake.

Residents have been invited to attend an 80s themed fundraising night at 7.30pm on Saturday (July 12) at the Newtown Club on Newtown Road. Anyone can call Kim on 07796 528026 for tickets or to find out more about What Makes You Different Makes You Beautiful.
