A CHURCH in Malvern is set to ring to the sounds of the Baroque when a talented conductor holds a special concert.

Piers Maxim will conduct his second concert as director of Music of the Elgar Chorale of Worcester when he appears at Malvern Priory on Saturday (June 6).

The programme, which is entitled Gloria, starts and finishes with pieces by Handel – As Pants the Hart and Dixit Dominus – both early works with clear influences of Purcell and Vivaldi.

Piers has become very familiar in the Malvern area as a conductor, teacher, pianist and organist.

He has also gained a reputation nationally and internationally as a composer, chorus master and conductor, having worked extensively with orchestras and choruses in opera houses across Europe as well as in the USA and South Africa.

The Elgar Chorale will be accompanied on the evening by the Pavillion Ensemble, a period instrument group which Piers has conducted a number of times.

Tickets for the concert, which starts at 7.30pm, cost £15 and £12, with children u16 going free if accompanied by an adult. To buy tickets, call 01684 594570, email [email protected] or visit Malvern Priory Bookshop.
