A MALVERN charity which supports children with learning difficulties and their families has been awarded almost £10,000 by BBC Children in Need.

The national fund-raising scheme has given the ‘What Makes You Different Makes You Beautiful (WMYDMYB) charity to deliver stay and play sessions for disabled children and young people in the town.

The charity’s project involves holding stay and play sessions with sensory soft play equipment to disabled children and young people.

This will help those young people to enjoy activities, make their own decisions and meet friends in a safe and supportive environment. The sessions ensure that the young people are not isolated whilst also increasing their self-belief and confidence.

Charity founder and Malvern resident Kimberley Philpotts said: “We’re thrilled to hear that we’ve been awarded this funding from BBC Children in Need.

“It will enable us to work with and change the lives of disadvantaged children and young people in Malvern.”

Speaking of the new grants, Melinda Connelly, BBC Children in Need Regional Head of the Central Region added: “BBC Children in Need funds organisations supporting disadvantaged children and young people across the UK, and we are so pleased to include What Makes You Different Makes You Beautiful within this.

“Through their application, the organisations have demonstrated the tangible impact that their activities can have on local youth and we look forward to seeing their work in action.

“Competition for funds is tough, but we are always keen to hear from projects making a difference to young lives and our small grants – which include anything up to £10,000 over the course of one year – are a great way to support new or existing projects looking to do just that.”

BBC Children in Need now funds 14 projects in Worcestershire with £703,797 hard at work to benefit young lives in the county. The charity awards grants at seven points during the year, with more funding to be pledged to projects working with disadvantaged children and young people throughout 2016.
