A SPECIAL beacon lighting will take place at the peak of the Worcestershire Beacon on the Malvern Hills on Thursday, June 2, to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee.
The Beacon will be lit at 9.45pm by Vice Lord-Lieutenant Roger Brunt CBE, with a local bugler announcing the lighting five minutes before with a unique Bugle Call entitled ‘Majesty’, specially written for the occasion.
It will be one of 2,022 beacons to be be lit across the Commonwealth on that evening.
Those wanting to attend have been advised to arrive at the peak of the Worcestershire Beacon in good time.
They should also bring a torch and wear suitable footwear and clothing.
A beacon chain was used as a communication tool in the past but has become a symbol of unity across towns, borders, countries and continents.
Similar services have become a tradition for royal jubilees, weddings and coronations.
The event is being supported by Worcestershire County Council, Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service, Malvern Hills District Council and Malvern Hills Trust.
Vice Lord-Lieutenant Roger Brunt CBE said: āIām delighted to be lighting this historic beacon on the fitting Worcestershire Beacon on the Malvern Hills to mark the momentous occasion.
“This will be the first time a British monarch has marked a Platinum Jubilee, 70 years as Sovereign. I would like to invite local communities and residents to join me and take part in this special moment.ā
