Big crowd for the switch-on

Malvern Editorial 4th Dec, 2013 Updated: 20th Oct, 2016   0

THERE was plenty of festive cheer in Malvern over the weekend as the town officially marked the Christmas period with its lights switch-on event.

The town was bustling with Christmas festivities on Saturday (November 30) which saw a 30ft Christmas tree, donated by Leigh Sinton Christmas Trees for the third successive year, take pride on Belle Vue Island.

Mulled wine, candyfloss and spices filled the air from the food market on Abbey Road before Father Christmas made his special visit giving out presents at the town’s Library.

Unique gifts from the arts and crafts market in the Priory Church grounds were available to buy for shoppers and the event had an even more festive feel when choirs and bands performed throughout the day.

The lights were switched on at 5pm by actors Sue Holderness from Only Fools and Horses and Olivia Birchenough from Channel 5’s Milkshake show, who are both playing starring roles at Malvern Theatre’s pantomime Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs.
