A CAMPAIGN to make the roads safer for motorcyclists has been launched.
The Safer Roads Partnership in Warwickshire and West Mercia introduced their Think Bike project last Wednesday (April 1) to help reduce casualties and deaths on the road.
Research shows there have been 37 fatalities and 464 serious injuries in the region following collisions involving motorbike in the last three years.
Posters are being put up on key motorcycle routes throughout the region highlighting where motorists need to take extra care and be more aware.
The partnership is also targeting those who may not have ridden their bikes over the winter but plan to get back on in the spring. They encourage them to carry out simple safety checks before venturing out.
Some bikers may not have used their cycles for six months and are urged to check the battery, electrics, tyres, chain, fluids, controls, brake and chassis.
Anna Higgins, communications manager for the Safer Roads Partnership said: “Both Warwickshire and West Mercia are popular with bikers and many riders are attracted to the area, particularly at weekends and when the weather is good.
“We’re aiming to make motorcyclists and car users more aware of the risks that are present when they are out on the roads and to help us reduce the amount of collisions that take place.”
The Safer Roads Partnership also offers a Take Control course for bikers who want to brush up on their skills, gain more confidence and become a better rider.
