Biomedical scientist at Worcestershire Royal Hospital sacked for misconduct and dishonesty

Malvern Editorial 28th Sep, 2017   0

A BIOMEDICAL scientist has been sacked from the histology department at Worcestershire Royal Hospital on grounds of misconduct and dishonesty.

Rakesh Chumber is to be struck off the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) Register after a panel heard that, on or around July 14, 2016, the band 5 scientist provided a reference purporting to be from Person A to a recruitment agency, with a view to obtaining paid employment as a biomedical scientist.

The panel further heard that at around the same time, Mr Chumber, who was neither present nor represented at the hearing, created an e-mail and/or sent an e-mail purporting to be from Person A to supply a reference to the recruitment agency.

The panel concluded that given the circumstances, nothing less than a striking off order would be sufficient to maintain public confidence in the profession and promote and maintain professional standards and conduct among members of the profession.

Mr Chumber will be removed from the HCPC register on Monday, October 9, with an interim order covering the appeal period.

Manuela Grayson, chairman of the HCPC panel, said: “Mr Chumber’s conduct amounted to an elaborate and premediated attempt to gain employment by dishonest means, showing a complete disregard for the process of recruitment, which relies on the provision of accurate and truthful information.

“In all the circumstances, this misconduct was serious.”
