Bloom deadline extension means there is still time

Malvern Editorial 22nd May, 2015 Updated: 20th Oct, 2016   0

THE DEADLINE for Malvern groups to enter the regional section of Britain in Bloom has been extended.

Despite the town taking a year out of the main competition, it is still focusing on the It’s Your Neighbourhood (IYN) entries and Malvern in Bloom has urged other groups to come forward to join the eight that have already registered.

Arcos, Friends of Great Malvern Cemetery, Clarence Park Village, Residents of Storer Court and Malvern S.E.C have all signed up to the Heart of England competition for the first time.

Beauchamp Community, Link Nursery and Dalvington have also put themselves forward again with the deadline for entries extended to Saturday, May 30.

John Jordan, chairman of Malvern in Bloom, said: “Despite taking a year out from the main competition, we want to make the town look nice and we can do that with these gardens.

“When I first took over this campaign I realised it is all about the people as well as the flowers and this is why we have continued the It’s Your Neighbourhood category this year.

“I try to involve these people and make them realise what they have got is important and contributes to the area.”

Malvern was advised by national judges on things to address in the town which could lead it to gain ‘Gold’ and potentially the overall Best in Britain status – leading to its 12-month absence from the main entry.

Anyone looking to enter the IYN category can contact Edwin Brown at Malvern Town Council on 01684 566667.
