MALVERN has again been commended for its beautiful array of flowers and garden blooms dotted all around the town.

The Victorian spa town was awarded its Gold Heart of England in Bloom award for the 20th year running thanks to the work of community group, Malvern in Bloom and their partners.

Judges for the Royal Horticultural Society competition, David and Lesley Pritchard were impressed during their visit to the town on July 20.

David and Lesley explored Great Malvern Cemetery, Malvern Hills Trust Land, Priory Park, Great Malvern Priory Church, Rosebank Gardens, Great Malvern Library & Gardens and Malvern Cube.

They also met with representatives from Malvern Spa Association, Malvern Cube Volunteers and Great Malvern Library gardening groups, who have all helped in the town’s bid to maintain its gold standard.

The mayor, Councillor Clive Hooper and the Malvern in Bloom Chairman, Coun David Watkins were delighted to attend the awards ceremony in Sutton Coldfield to accept their award on behalf of the town.

The two judges noted a great sense of community spirit in Malvern and praised the involvement from so many organisations and individuals who helped.

They also said it was ‘fabulous’ to see street furniture and signage being developed and maintained throughout Malvern.

One notable addition being Rosebank Gardens’ ‘Malvern Tourism Sign’.

Coun Watkins, who is also deputy mayor, said: “This is an excellent achievement for Malvern, and thanks must go to all the Town Council staff involved as well as to the ‘In Bloom’ volunteers and those from partnership organisations within the town.

“The Heart of England in Bloom is about much more than just horticulture and a lot of hard work has gone into the Town’s entry.”
