THE UPTON Blues Festival has been named one of the county’s best events.
The music extravaganza which attracts about 15,000 people to Upton upon Severn in July was declared 2014’s Best Festival at the Visit Worcestershire Awards For Excellence.
It is the biggest free blues festival in the UK with two main stages at each end of the town and nine pub and boat stages.
More than 100 performers entertained the crowds throughout the weekend this year.
Grahame Bunn, volunteer committee member, said: “The Upton Blues Festival has grown organically from a small event in the pubs to one of the best blues festivals in the UK through the application of a small group of volunteer organisers.
“We now have over 2,000 campers who travel from across the country every year and people who discover us each time as the fame of the festival grows.
“The event brings lots of happiness to lots of people and lots of visitors to Worcestershire.
“Its a festival that is rooted in the streets of Upton upon Severn and the town plays a fundamental part in the atmosphere.”
