Boost for local charities thanks to new store opening

Malvern Editorial 26th Apr, 2024   0

MALVERN’S new B&M store has announced local charities will mark the official opening of the discount shop in May.

The shop which will create 39 new jobs for local people will partner with Malvern Hills Foodbank and Malvern Special Families charity to cut the ribbon for the stores opening on May 4.

Colleagues were asked to nominate a local charity they think truly deserves some VIP treatment for the work they do for the local community.

They chose the two local charities to take centre stage and officially unveil the new store.

In addition to opening the store, both the teams will receive £250 worth of B&M vouchers each, which will go towards helping the charities to continue doing the great work they do.

Malvern Hills Foodbank was founded in 2012 by local churches and community groups, who are working together towards stopping hunger in the local area.

They do this by offering three-day emergency food supplies to people in crisis. It is run completely by volunteers, and in the past 10 years have provided 27,000 three-day emergency food supplies to those in need.

In total there has been 330,000kg donated by the people of Malvern. Their aim is to tackle food poverty and hunger so that eventually, nobody ever has to go hungry.

Malvern Special Families are a specialist provider of safe, stimulating, and fun social opportunities for children and young people with disabilities aged 5-18 years old.

They are current supporting 175 families. They make a huge positive different to the lives of the children who use their service and to their families.

They do this through delivering excellent clubs and playschemes, enabling the children to socialise, develop confidence and new skills through play-based activities and by raising awareness about special needs in the community.

The store manager from B&M said: “We’re feeling extremely positive about the creation of more jobs for local people, and we hope customers are going to be delighted with their new store.

“Malvern Hills Foodbank and Malvern Special Families really stood out for us, so we wanted to give them some VIP treatment as a thank you for all the hard work that they have done.

“We hope that our donation can help them to continue the great work they do.”
