Brave Oscar Saxelby-Lee returns to school for first time after cancer battle

BRAVE Oscar Saxelby-Lee and his devoted parents are celebrating after the courageous six-year-old returned to school for the first time since his diagnosis.

The inspiring Pitmaston Primary School pupil has been cancer free for 10 months and marked the end of the current half-term with two short taster sessions ahead of his full-time return.

Oscar’s visit came almost two years after he and parents Olivia Saxelby and Jamie Lee were first handed the devastating diagnosis of T cell acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL).

At the end of last year, Worcestershire and the West Midlands came together with the Grace Kelly Childhood Cancer Trust and Pitmaston Primary School to fund-raise over half a million pounds to fund potentially lifesaving treatment in Singapore for Oscar as part of the Hand in Hand for Oscar campaign.

Oscar is only the second child in the world to receive this ground-breaking personalised treatment and his return to school was marked with delight by his proud mum.

Writing on the Hand in Hand for Oscar Facebook page, Olivia wrote: “YESSSS HE DID!!!!

“Today was the day he’d been longing for, Today was the day he walked back through those doors Today was the day he accomplished his one and only goal, Today was the day he achieved the biggest step yet, Today was HIS DAY!!

“Welcome home was hard enough…. but welcome back to school threw us completely.

“What an emotional yet miraculous moment. We’re not full time yet, but it won’t take him long.

“Thank you for all the love you wonderful people! You are the best team ever,” she added.
