Café manager slams 'stupid' thieves

A CAFÉ manager has told of her frustration after ‘stupid’ thieves targeted her business and her husband’s across the street in the same night.

Sheila Swarbrick from The Courtyard Coffee House on Belle Vue Terrace said she was shocked when one of her staff members called her on Thursday morning (January 16) to tell her the café had been burgled overnight.

Fortunately nothing valuable was taken although a small amount of money was stolen and the doors and shutters had been damaged.

Mrs Swarbrick said it was likely the same culprits who also targeted her husband’s café Rebbecca’s Range on Edith Walk the same night after wrench markings were found on the door. She added that luckily they never got in and must have been disturbed.

Mrs Swarbrick said it was the second time in six months her café had been burgled and claimed the thieves would have had to put in a lot of effort just to access the building.

“Its not the money that’s gone missing, it is more the damage which is just so annoying.

“It was just stupid more than anything else.

“It was obviously pre-organised – they would have had to climb over two roofs to get in.

“I wouldn’t even know how to get to the back of the building, it was obviously somebody with general knowledge of the area.”

Any witnesses or anyone with any information should call 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
