Call for volunteers as Malvern community pantry extends hours

Sonny Rackham 4th Mar, 2025 Updated: 6th Mar, 2025   0

A COMMUNITY pantry in Malvern will now be open to those in need of an evening thanks to an uptake in volunteers.

The Octagon Centre Community Pantry is extending its hours to host a drop-in session every Thursday evening (5.30pm to 6.30pm) from March 13.

Located on Brook Farm Drive, Malvern, the centre serves as a hub for the local community, offering many activities for local people, as well as space for hire for many types of activities.

It’s pantry is a surplus food project which supports households in need by distributing excess food.

The evening drop-in sessions on Thursdays will be in addition to the centre’s Friday morning community and cafe pantry (9.30am to 11am).

For a £3 donation people can select up to five items from our fridge and pantry as well as a bag of fresh vegetables from our freebies table (subject to availability).

This new Thursday evening pantry is intended for people who are unable to attend in the day.

While the community centre has the support of some extra volunteers to make the evening openings a possibility, it could do with a few more helping hands.

The centre would like another volunteer for the evening sessions on Thursdays (roughly an hour and a half each week) and has slots for Wednesday early evenings and Friday mornings. Contact the centre for more.

A spokesperson for Malvern Pantry said: “We always look forward to welcoming our local community to The Octagon Centre.”

The Octagon Centre also hosts various other events for the community such as cafe mornings and family groups and hires out its facilities to help fund its community projects.
