Carol Ann Duffy to perform in Malvern to celebrate town's book co-op store's fifth birthday

POET Laureate Carol Ann Duffy has announced she will be performing in town to help the Malvern Book Co-operative celebrate its fifth birthday.

Malvern Cube on Albert Road North will host the show on Friday, May 4 when Carol Ann and musician John Sampson will give attendees a once-in-a-lifetime chance to see the county’s leading literary figures in action.

Together they have been touring their eclectic and iconoclastic blend of poetry and music all over the country for fifteen years.

And their show at the Theatre Royal in Nottingham has already sold out so people have been advised to book tickets early.

Carol is a well-known figure among students as her work is frequently part of the GCSE and A-Level syllabus including poems such as ‘We Remember Your Childhood Well’ and ‘Before You Were Mine’.

“Whenever I do a reading, the local independent book-store will almost always be there afterwards, selling poetry,” Carol said.

“It’s an act of love on their part and for years I’ve thought they should get something in return.”

Tom Padfield of the Malvern Book Co-operative added: “We had heard of Carol’s support for independent book shops and so contacted her on the off chance she might be available to help with our birthday celebrations.

“We were gob-smacked when Carol Ann and John accepted our invitation.”

Tickets (£10 adults, £8 for under-18s and students) are available from the Malvern Book Co-operative shop, the Malvern Tourist Information Centre and online from malverncube.com.
