Cash boost sends Malvern SEND charity to Legoland

Malvern Editorial 6th Mar, 2023   0

A CASH boost has enabled a Malvern charity to give children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) a fun-filled day to remember at Legoland, writes Eloise Hodges.

The £1,500 donation was given to What Makes You Different Makes You Beautiful (WMYDMYB) by Platform Housing’s Community Chest Fund.

A total of 17 families went on the wonderful day out.

The charity runs life skill sessions, offers day trips and family events in a bid to reduce isolation and give children the opportunity to have fun in a safe environment, just like anybody else.

Other non-profit organisations can apply for Community Chest Funding if their work directly benefits Platform customers.

Applications are assessed against specific eligibility criteria by customers who sit on the customer experience panel.

Gem Murphy, Platform Housing Group’s head of customer and community engagement, said the company was delighted it was able to help.

“We understand many special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) parents and children can often feel isolated, excluded from society and feel anxious about outings, so it’s great these families were able to spend quality time together, enjoying a special day out.”

Kassie Walker, playworker and admin assistant at WMYDMYB support centre, thanked Platform Housing Group, adding the coach trip was something many of the children and families the charity supported would ordinarily be unable to do.

“Everyone really enjoyed themselves and were grateful to be given the opportunity to spend some stimulating, quality family time together.”
