CELEBRATIONS have been taking place at Perrins House in Malvern as resident and Cricket fan, David Rose, celebrated his milestone 100th birthday with his family and friends.
David grew up on a farm in Essex where his father worked said he was very lucky as a child as he had his very own pony – and a shotgun.
“As well as my pony, I loved all sports, especially cricket and hockey, and from the age of eight, I attended a boarding school in Sussex.”
After leaving school, David attended university and then went on to serve in The Royal Navy.
“Following my naval career, I worked for an insurance company called Equity and Law. I enjoyed my job and worked my way up to become one of the high-ranking managers.
“It was a challenging but rewarding role which enabled me to move around quite a bit. I was based in Leeds, Bristol and then London.
“I enjoyed it so much, I worked for the company for 36 years. Once I retired the company was taken over by a French Company called AXA, which is still around today.”
In 1949, David married his wife, Mary at a church in Chessington.
David and Mary became parents to two children, their son, Simon and daughter, Gillian.
“I’m now a proud grandfather and great grandfather, they are all wonderful and I love spending time with them all.”
David is exceptionally well travelled.
“I’ve been fortunate enough to have visited many places including Australia, Sri Lanka and most of Europe.
“However, my favourite holiday destination has to be Nearja, a municipality on the Costa del Sol in Spain.
“A very good friend of mine owned a villa and let me holiday there. It’s s a very beautiful place, famous for many things including the stunning Balcón de Europa viewpoint, the prehistoric Cauevas de Nerja Caves and for its traditional Andalusian cuisine, particularly the fresh fish and Pescaito Frito, fried fish.”
“David has enjoyed a very busy 100th Birthday weekend,” said Jo Bennett, the general manager at Friends of the Elderly Malvern.
“He had lots of visitors – his family and friends have all been celebrating with him and, his family organised a special, surprise Birthday Party at The Cube Centre in Malvern.”
