Charity Christmas campaign donates over 150 presents to homeless

HOMELESS people across Worcester and Malvern benefited from more than 150 boxes of essentials such as toiletries, food and clothing thanks to a dedicated city care worker.

The ‘Christmas Present for the Homeless’ campaign brought together businesses such as Cooper’s Cleans, the Punch Bowl in Worcester, the Prince Of Wales in Warndon and many more who donated items.

Lucie, a care assistant at Latimer Court Care Home, said: “I wanted to raise donations for the homeless this year as I went through a personal experience of being at risk of homelessness myself.

“I thought to myself this is how I feel just being at risk of homelessness and how must someone homeless feel.”

“I am also aware of someone who uses Maggs Day Centre and has heard about their work in the past.

“I’ve managed to get donations from Worcester retailers alongside small local independent businesses and people from the community.

“It’s delivered excellent results and I am truly grateful for every donation I have received so thank you.”

Latimer Court Care Home acted as a drop off point for donations alongside Barbourne Ex Services Club which was put out each weekend for donations to be collected.

The donations have been taken to the charity’s Clothing Project, which is run solely on donations.

Melissa Blewitt, marketing and relations officer at Maggs Day Centre, said: “The team at Maggs are amazed by Lucie’s hard work on securing donations for us and her fantastic work will mean our services will be stocked for our users to benefit from for a long period.

“The number of rough sleepers has doubled in the last few months, so now more than ever we are feeling the demand to ensure that our service users have access to the best possible service we can provide to make their current living situation more bearable.”

“Thank you Lucie for thinking of Maggs and helping us bring cheer to the homeless this Christmas,” she added.
