Charity doorstep scammers operating in Malvern prompts police warning

Malvern Editorial 31st Mar, 2023 Updated: 31st Mar, 2023   0

RESIDENTS have been warned to be on their guard after reports of a scam in Malvern, involving doorstep cold callers posing as charity collectors.

Two men have been posing as ambassadors of Save the Children charity, going door-to-door asking for donations from people in the district and also in Hereford.

The men were wearing red uniforms with the charity logo on but refused to show ID when asked and showed rude and aggressive behaviour when asking for money.

Save the Children has confirmed it did not have any staff in the area and stated its ambassadors would always be displaying ID and would not be calling round as late as the alleged scammers have been.

Action Fraud has been informed.

If residents encounter scammers, they should call West Mercia Police on 101 or alternatively report online via the police website.

Scams can also be reported to Action Fraud via the website actionfraud.police.uk or by calling 0300 123 2040.

Always call 999 if there is an immediate threat.
