Chase School 'surpass expectations' to record 'fantastic' GCSE results

Malvern Editorial 24th Aug, 2017 Updated: 24th Aug, 2017   0

THE CHASE School students have once again surpassed expectations and produced a fantastic set of GCSE results this summer.

This is even more impressive, considering the significant changes made to GCSE English and Maths courses which have come into effect for the first time this year.

Not only have these courses been made more rigorous and demanding, but also the grading has now changed from letters (A*-G) to a numeric grade (9-1).

Making comparisons therefore with the performance of previous year groups has therefore become more or less impossible to make.

Impressively, more than ten per cent of all entries achieved the highest grade (A*/9-8) this summer.

Also, half of all GCSE entries achieved either an A*-B grade or 9-5 grade.

The standout performance was from Tomos Pickford who achieved the top 9 grade (comparable to A**) in both Maths and English Language, together with an 8 grade in English Literature together with a further 8 A* grades.

Other outstanding performances included Daniella Mai, Morgan Coe, Connor Dooley, Daisy Hannis, James Howell and Hayley Strain who all achieved at least 8 A* grades including an 8/9 grade in English and Maths.

Annie Dawson, Milo Elmes, Owen Rushby-Jones and Cerys Wilks must also be commended for achieving 7 A* grades including an 8/9 grade in English and Maths.

Headteacher Mike Fieldhousewas delighted with the students’ performance this year, and wanted to pay a special tribute to the school’s teachers who have continued to support students in producing these outstanding results at a time when significant changes are taking place with GCSE subjects, especially English and Maths.

“Without our exceptional teachers, our students would have struggled to perform with these new GCSE qualifications,” he said.

“It demonstrates that those students who work hard and are committed to their studies within a supportive and nurturing environment are justly rewarded for their efforts.”
