Christ Church celebrate lamp restoration

Malvern Editorial 15th Jan, 2015 Updated: 20th Oct, 2016   0

A LAMP outside a church which has been unused for more than 40 years has now been restored to provide a glowing welcome to visitors.

Angie Green, church warden at Christ Church on Avenue Road, said they had been looking to repair the light near the main front door for years and in recent weeks individuals had come together contributing in different ways to complete the restoration.

She thanked Pat Dorrell for sanding down and painting the column, Boyd Dorrell for creating a new stainless steel plate and Adrian Priddy for connecting it all up.

Gratitude was also paid to Brian Harper from Transition Gasketeers for installing the actual electric lamp which he has designed to look and behave like a traditional gas lamp.

Ms Green added: “We are trying to make the church look nice and the old lamp looked such a mess.

“People have noticed the difference and think it is amazing. It looks fabulous. After all these years it has been restored to its former glory and now we have light shining outside the church as well as inside. It is so nice to have a welcoming glow.”
