Cinema set for £50K revamp

Malvern Editorial 29th Oct, 2014 Updated: 20th Oct, 2016   0

A MAJOR revamp to Malvern Theatres cinema worth £50,000 is set to get underway in the next two weeks.

The work which will begin on Wednesday, November 5, will see all 380 seats replaced as bosses at the Grange Road venue aim to increase the levels of comfort.

Once the project is completed film lovers will have a choice of premium, standard or double seats all to a modern day standard.

The first screening in the refurbished cinema will be Elaine Constantine’s Northern Soul on Thursday, November 13, followed by Susanne Bier’s Serena starring Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper the next day.

The work is just one part of a planned £1million investment in Malvern Theatres which began with the launch of a public fund-raising campaign in March this year.

Other proposed enhancements to the venue include glassing the entire front and installing a new café, constructing a new restaurant on mezzanine floor and making the building more energy efficient. All of the auditoria are set to be reseated as well as the cinema.

In addition to large grants, public donations have contributed a massive amount to the pot so far.

Chief executive Nic Lloyd said: “I’m delighted by the response to the campaign to replace our cinema seating and I’m enormously grateful to everyone who has donated money.

“The size, scale, age and layout of Malvern Cinema have always combined to offer a unique experience and I’m very happy we shall now be able to match these with the levels of comfort that audiences expect when they go to see a film.”
