A man who wished to remain anonymous, contacted the Observer today (Wednesday) and alleged The Chase Rest Home in Upper Welland had been closed to visitors since Saturday (April 12) due to a case of the winter vomiting bug and was not due to open again until Easter at the earliest.
Manager Linda Burton denied the home had been closed at all and categorically stated that none of the residents had ‘confirmed Norovirus’.
However she added there were ‘things happening’ at the Chase Road based home which families had been informed about but refused to provide further information due to reasons relating to patient confidentiality.
Ms Burton said she had ‘no idea’ why someone had claimed there was a case of Norovirus at the home.
“Someone has only got to pass wind these days and people think it is Norovirus.
“It’s unfortunate someone would say that. Some people have got far too much time on their hands.
“It’s actually very disrupting, there are some very vulnerable people here. This is just scaremongering.”
There is no specific cure and patients have to let it run its course but cases are typically mild and usually last between 12 and 48 hours.
It is not usually dangerous and most people make a full recovery without having to see a doctor.
