A POPULAR fitness craze which involves working out in a nightclub atmosphere has hit the streets of Malvern.
Freelance fitness instructor Laura Austin-Rizzo, who has lived in town all her life, has brought Clubbercise to the masses.
Clubbercise was developed in 2013 by three ladies who missed their nights out clubbing and decided to combine the club atmosphere with getting fit.
After recently launching the programme, Laura has had to go from hosting one class a week to three due to the high demand.
The classes run at Malvern Splash on Priory Road where attendees wear neon clothes and face paint and dance the night away with glow sticks.
Laura told the Observer she decided to launch Clubbercise classes after realising how much of an atmosphere mattered in a fitness class.
“In the past as a participant I could attend a class in the dark with music and disco lights and absolutely love it,” she said.
“Then the next day where the same class was in a brightly lit studio with quieter music I did not enjoy exercising at all.
“With Clubbercise being based on a club atmosphere with a big emphasis on music it was the perfect programme for me.”
Given the huge reaction to her classes, Laura says she wants to attract more newcomers who are bored with their current workout routine to the craze.
“People don’t see it as working out at the gym, they see it as having a good time while burning around 500 calories without even realising,” she added.
“It is completely adaptable to suit all fitness levels so people can either take things easy or give themselves a bit of a push.
“The reaction to Clubbercise coming to Malvern has been amazing and I am so happy people are loving it just as much as I love teaching it.”
Clubbercise classes at Malvern Splash are held every week on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.
