Coach House Theatre can shine brightly thanks to £3,000 grant from Malvern Town Council

MALVERN’S Coach House Theatre will be shining brightly for the foreseeable future after securing a special grant from the town council.

The Grange Road theatre was awarded a sum of £3,000 from the authority to cover the cost of two new LED lights.

Opened in May 2006, the voluntary-run service seats approximately 70 audience members in theatre mode and 110 with additional seating.

And the procurement of new high-tech, remote controlled, colour-changing stage lights will reduce the need for those volunteers to climb up dangerous ladders to change filter colours manually.

Mayor of Malvern Coun Cynthia Palmer visited the theatre to see what a difference the new lights would make.

“The Coach House Theatre is a fantastic venue for community and larger projects alike,” she said.

“It is a beautiful building, and Chris and his team have worked so hard to turn it into the brilliant theatre that it is today.

“It is great to see one new light installed already, and it’s obvious how much this will help the production team in terms of time and safety.”

Chris Bassett, executive of the Coach House Theatre, added the town council’s ‘generous contribution’ brings the stage lighting ‘into the 21st century’.

“The old lights required high power, leading to expensive costs which would have continued to rise,” he said.

“They reached a high temperature, and the phasing-in of new, efficient lights will save thousands in energy costs over at least the next twenty years.”
