THE SOUNDS of the summer will be coming to Holy Trinity Church in Malvern next Saturday, June 17.

Malvern Male Voice Choir has joined forces with Severn Voices for the Colours of Summer concert which starts at 7.30pm.

The two choirs will be performing the finest pieces from their repertoire.

The Male Voice Choir presents its usual mix of styles with a few pop hits, music for the stage and songs from the sea before singing well-known male voice choir Welsh standards.

Severn Voices will be performing an exacting programme with a floral celebration as found in mainly English music vastly contrasting in age from over 400 years ago to the present day.

Malvern Male Voice Choir, which celebrated its centenary last year, is known for its love of singing across a wide range of genres that is appreciated by its audiences.

Severn Voices is a much younger choir, having been founded by its conductor, William Coleman, in 2011, singing a diverse and challenging repertoire from some of the most beautiful classics to new works by living composers.

Local composer Liz Dilnot Johnson, who was commissioned to create a work for Malvern Male Voice Choir, recently described the choir as a ‘gentle group of guys which was just beautiful to watch with its real sense of community’.

This year it is Severn Voices which will sing one of her compositions: ‘For Hester’.

A Malvern Male Voice Choir rehearses at Holy Trinity Church on most Mondays between September and early July.

A spokesperson said: “This will be the last concert of the choir’s 2022/3 season and it’s great to be welcoming Severn Voices – another well-established Malvern choir – to share the stage.”

Tickets for the concert, which include refreshments, cost £12 (18s and under go FREE).

Tickets can be bought in advance by calling 01684 573559 or from Parry’s of Great Malvern (open Tuesday to Saturday 9.30am to 4.15pm).

All remaining tickets will be available on the door.
