I WAS delighted to see more than 300 people attend the recent Shark in the Park event – our outdoor screening of Jaws to mark the 40th anniversary of the Spielberg classic.
Not only because it was a fantastic event and a first for us, but because it came as a result of feedback from our residents. Earlier this year our Economic Development team held a focus group with young people and providing outdoor cinema events was one of the suggestions.
As a result of its success we’re now looking at putting on more in the next year.
Feedback is a wonderful thing as it helps to shape the work we do on your behalf. It is difficult to get though. So many people believe there’s ‘no point bothering they won’t do anything anyway’.
I understand why people think that and of course it’s fair to say the public sector as a whole isn’t good at demonstrating how feedback is turned into action.
Part of the problem is we can’t always act on feedback as other competing factors, such as money, get in the way and people get disillusioned. However, I am keen we listen more and act where we can.
I’m soon to take a step into the unknown by making an appearance on You Tube in a video blog to mark Local Democracy Week. People have been sending in their questions and I will be answering them along with Chief Executive Jack Hegarty. That should be uploaded in the next week so search for Malvern Hills District Council on our You Tube channel over the next few days and see what happens.
If successful we hope to do more in the future. It’s just another way we’re trying to make it easier for people to talk to us and share their thoughts and ideas.
Feedback is a two way street and in order for us to listen more, we need all of you to get involved and take part in the conversation.
