Colwall Players return to the stage with 'Quartet' for the first time since pandemic started

THE COLWALL Players return to the stage this week with their first live production since the pandemic struck.

The company will perform Quartet by Ronald Harwood a Colwall Village Hall, Mill Lane from Thursday to Saturday, October 28 to 30.

Quartet is a witty and poignant play centring on Cecily, Reggie, and Wilfred who reside in a home for retired opera singers.

They often worked together in the past but have now fallen on straitened times and spend their time reminiscing about their ‘glory days’.

Newcomer Jean, a major star in her day, and to whom Reginald was once unhappily married, arrives at the home and disrupts their equilibrium.

A gala concert is organised to celebrate Verdi’s birthday but will the group sing together to recreate their famous performance of Rigoleto’s quartet?

Quartet opened in 1999 in the West End and a film version, directed by Dustin Hoffman and starring Maggie Smith, Tom Courtney, and Billy Connolly, followed.

Tickets for The Colwall Players’ production are available by calling John Goodwin on 01684 540300.
