Colwall Scout Group celebrates 50th anniversary

Malvern Editorial 6th Oct, 2017 Updated: 16th Oct, 2017   0

THERE was much to celebrate at the weekend as Colwall Scout Group marked their 50th anniversary.

Current scouts and leaders from the club, which formed in October 1967, as well as past leaders John Revell, Arnold Penney, Kenny Lloyd and current leader Tom Palmer got together for the celebration on Sunday.

The archives had been emptied and displayed to show the history of this group, including flags, trophies, certificates, books and badges.

There was plenty of reminiscing over photos and videos showing the many activities enjoyed by more than 1,000 young people who have been part of  Colwall Scout Group during the last half century.

To commemorate the occasion there was a badge competition which was open to all in the group.

Production is now underway to create a badge from the winning design.

Andrew Lee, group scout leader, said: “There were some great ideas commemorating this event, it was hard to choose just one.”

Adrian Ward, an explorer leader who was among the first Wolf Cubs when the pack reformed, cut a special ‘Celebrating 50 years of Scouting in Colwall’ cake.

Mr Ward said the event was well attended by many who had not seen each for a while.

The Colwall Scout Group has thrived since the early days of 1967.

Back then there were 27 Wolf Cubs and 11 Boy Scouts.

Today there are more than 70 Scouts in the Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Explorers, and Young Leaders sections, from the Colwall, Ledbury and Malvern area.
