CHIEFS at Little Malvern and Welland Parish Council hope their latest fund-raiser will bring in the remaining money needed to purchase traffic calming measures for the area.
Folk-rock band Noble Jacks will be performing at Welland Church next Saturday at 7pm with doors opening at 6.15pm.
Proceeds from the event will go towards buying a speed indicating sign which flashes when vehicles are travelling quicker than the speed limit.
The technology will be installed on the Gloucester Road which leads into Welland from Castlemorton Common.
As Worcestershire County Council cannot put in any other calming measures apart from 30mph warning signs, Little Malvern and Welland Parish Council decided to take matters into its own hands to make drivers aware of the speed limit.
The new sign is expected to cost £3,300 and so far the authority is about £1,300 short of their target.
Fund-raising for traffic calming measures started in the summer last year and the parish council is also looking for businesses in the area to help support the project.
Viv Nelson, chair of Little Malvern and Welland Parish Council, said: “Our road safety projects are vital for the well-being of everyone in the village and we are really grateful to those people who have already donated to make a difference.
“The Gloucester Road carries heavy traffic to and from Gloucester and the motorway, a lot of it travelling well over 40mph alongside the footpath where lots of children walk to school.
“Most drivers are careful but we plan to install a speed indicating sign to remind some about their excessive speed before they cause an accident or get points on their licence.”
She added: “The Welland Gigs, supported by the Shindig programme, are a terrific way of raising extra money and getting people together to enjoy great, live entertainment right in the heart of the parish.”
