DOZENS of projects across Malvern are set to receive a share of nearly £2 million in funding to provide a lasting legacy for communities.
The Community Facility Legacy Grant Scheme has been launched by Malvern Hills District Council to support communities to become healthier, safer, and stronger by protecting and enhancing where people live for generations.
At a meeting on Tuesday (September 16), the council’s executive committee approved £1 million towards successful projects, along with an additional £900k from Section 106, Community Infrastructure Levy, and existing budgets.
The grant scheme, which launched in April, received 70 applications from a variety of organisations, with projects ranging from refurbishments, new play areas, and repairs to car park improvements, environmental works, and a brand-new village hall in Holt.
Of the total combined £1.9 million council investment, 69 per cent will be awarded to projects within rural communities and 31 per cent will be awarded to facilities across Malvern.
Projects will be required to match-fund the amount they receive from the grant which will provide an extra £1.3 million investment into communities.
The grant scheme comes as part of the overall multi-million-pound investment in communities across the district. Up to £3 million will be also invested in council-owned facilities and public open spaces to create healthier communities and improve accessibility.
Amongst these facilities are Malvern Rugby Football Club, Sport Dyson Perrins, Malvern Town Football Club, Upton Hill Centre, Malvern Vale Community Centre, and a new community facility which will be built in Leigh Sinton.
Councillor Jennie Watkins, portfolio holder for communities at Malvern Hills District Council, said: “I am pleased to see the success of the grant scheme has led to more funding for our communities.
“These projects, which span 15 out of the total 18 council wards, will all offer long-term legacies for current and future generations to enjoy”.
