LEADING figures at Malvern Hills District Council have marked this year’s Commonwealth Day by holding a special ceremony this morning (Monday).
A Commonwealth flag was raised at the top of the council tower together with more than 850 other Commonwealth flags in 38 Commonwealth countries.
Doing the honours were the council’s managing director Jack Hegarty and the authorty’s chairman Coun Barbara Williams.
Coun Williams read out a specially written speech at the ceremony before the flag was raised.
She said: “It is great to be a part of a shared celebration of the family of nations that encompasses the globe.
“It is a unique initiative that joins people together, and I am really proud to be a part of it.”
Commonwealth Day is now in its third year and has caught the imagination of thousands of participants, inspiring them to connect with others and gives them opportunities for friendship and co-operation with fellow Commonwealth citizens around the world.
