Council praise for inspirational Les

AN ‘INSPIRATIONAL leader’ has been praised for his eight years of service to the town’s Citizens’ Advice Bureau (CAB).

Les Kinmond was presented with a certificate by Coun Barbara Williams, chair of Malvern Hills District Council, at a full council meeting last Tuesday (July 14).

Mr Kinmond joined as head of the formerly known Malvern CAB in 2007 and has overseen the merger with Wychavon CAB into a wider South Worcestershire branch – a move which secured the charity’s future.

He also successfully lobbied to have a planned 50 per cent cut in funding from the Money Advice Service overturned.

Coun Williams said: “Since his arrival, Les has been an inspirational leader.

“He has faced many challenges over the years and the organisation has more than once been faced with the prospect of cuts or even closure.

“The commitment and dedication Les has shown to those most vulnerable across our district is something we all appreciate and it is a privilege to officially recognise that by presenting you with this certificate of appreciation.”

Coun Williams said he had left some big shoes to fill, but she added his replacement, Karen Edwards, was more than capable of taking on the role.

Les has also been involved with the Malvern Hills Community Foundation, been a trustee of West Mercia Probation Trust and is a trustee at Malvern Theatres.

Les added: “I would like to thank Malvern Hills District Council.

“They have always been tremendous supporters of the Citizens’ Advice Bureau in Malvern.

“However, the CAB would be nothing without its volunteers so on behalf of its volunteers I thank you very much indeed.”
