Countdown under way to Worcester's first ever Balloon Festival

Malvern Editorial 27th Apr, 2023   0

WORCESTER’S first-ever Balloon Festival is moving into view with the countdown to the spectacle less than a month away.

The festival will be taking to the skies from Worcester Racecourse on May 12 and 13 with more than 50 balloonists already expressing their interest in attending.

Combined with the live arena entertainment, funfair, local stalls, street food and drink stands, fireworks plus a brilliant circus workshop, there is so much to see and do for all the family.

The much-anticipated event will open at 4pm on May 12 to kickstart the weekend by opening the funfair, food and drink stalls with some traders opening early.

As the sun sets, the evening balloon ascent will begin, weather permitting.

This will be followed by the magical hot air balloon night glow, for those who haven’t seen one before, the balloons illuminate like lanterns and are choreographed to music.

Friday night will finish with a banging, firework finale before closing at 11pm to get ready for the jam-packed Saturday.

The day will begin with a balloon launch at around 6am – again weather permitting – for all the early risers to come and enjoy.

It will be visible from the car park and there are no charges to come and watch the balloons take to the sky in the morning.

For the main event, the gates will open at 11am ready to welcome everyone for a full day of entertainment.

There is a full programme of live arena entertainment from:

Stuntworld: This amazing team has performed all over the world and has accumulated five world records on its way; Stuntworld has the most unbelievable and talented riders that will amaze you with their skills.

Jamie Squibb Freestyle: Jamie and the team will take your breath away with the stunts and tricks that they bring to the show.

The American Civil War Society (ACWS): The Society provides an all-absorbing experience to give an exciting, colourful, noisy spectacle that we hope is both enjoyable to watch as well as being very informative.

Got 2 Sing– the choir consisting of the voices of the community coming to bring entertainment and fun.

For those wanting to learn some new skills, Flotsam the Fools Circus workshop will be there to provide circus skills workshop suitable for all ages.

As the evening draws in, prepare yourself for a mass balloon ascent – weather permitting – where all the pilots will take to the skies from the balloon arena before the event closes with another firework finale.
