County carers to be celebrated in Malvern next week

Malvern Editorial 18th Sep, 2017   0

A SPECIAL event to celebrate carers throughout Worcestershire will be held in Malvern by a county housing firm next week.

Fortis Living, which provides more than 15,000 homes throughout Worcestershire, Herefordshire and Gloucestershire, will run a ‘Carers Together’ at Clarence Park Village next Tuesday as part of its annual Communities Week which runs from next Monday to next Friday.

Taking place between 2.30pm and 4.00pm the occasion will celebrate the carers within the community and more importantly, give them the opportunity to socialise and take time out.

Carers Together is run in partnership with the Worcestershire Association of Carers, a registered charity which was formed in 1997 to provide an independent source of information, advice and support for unpaid adult carers in the county.

Lucie Pearson, housing officer at Fortis Living, said: “Communities Week is all about staff and residents providing community support to each other.

“Throughout the week our employees will take time out of their usual day jobs to do something different that will have a positive impact on those around them.

“One of our themes this year is to raise awareness of local carers and as part of this we are hosting an event which will be on offer for both carers and the person they care for.”

Jane Taylor, community and partnerships lead from the Worcestershire Association of Carers, added: “For the first time this year we are thrilled to be supporting Fortis Living’s Communities Week.

“In the last census – 2011 – approximately 63,000 carers were identified in Worcestershire; this figure has undoubtedly risen.

“It is vital that there is support and information for such people.

“Although being a carer can be rewarding it can also be exhausting and isolating, that’s why events like these are so important, bringing carers together in an environment where they can support each other as well as access external help.”
