A COUNTY charity which supports the well-being of children and young adults with cancer has handed the Teenage Cancer Trust a cash boost of more than £100,000.

The Daisychain Benevolent Fund Trust, which has a store in Malvern, donated £111,098 to the TCT so they can continue helping young people with the disease in Worcestershire and the surrounding areas.

As one of Daisychain’s nominated partners since 2013, the TCT has benefitted from donations totaling £390,000.

One of their shop volunteers, Sheldon Donovan, aged 25 and from Malvern, knows only too well the difference that the TCT can make to a young person with cancer after he was supported by the charity when he went through his treatment.

“I am so glad that I was supported by Teenage Cancer Trust,” he said.

“I would not have dealt with my cancer diagnoses in the same way if I was being treated on an adult ward.

“I received the specialist support I needed, as did my family and my partner.

“It has been the worst year, but also the best, thanks to all the amazing and inspirational people I have met along the way.

“I love volunteering for Daisychain as much as I can when I’m not working.

“I want to give back to Teenage Cancer Trust so that they can help other people like me.”

Sheldon was treated at the TCT unit in Cardiff, close to where his parents lived.

Across the UK there are 28 units, three of which are located in Birmingham.

Daisychain Benevolent Fund trustee Davina Roberts said: “We’re very proud to have raised so much money for Teenage Cancer Trust, and we must thank our volunteers and supporters for their continued support.

“Daisychain rely on donations of good quality clean clothing, bric a brac, books, accessories, jewellery and unwanted gifts to sell in our shops.

“Unlike many door-to-door clothing collections, which export the clothes at a fraction of its value, we would encourage local people to donate directly to Daisychain shops so that we can continue to generate funds to donate to our nominated charities like Teenage Cancer Trust that make such a difference to lives of young people with cancer.”
