A MALVERN school has welcomed a cricketing professional to the fold to nurture the next generation of talented young sportspeople.
With an eight year career in professional cricket, George Rhodes joins Malvern College as Cricket Professional.
Born into a cricketing dynasty, 30 year old Rhodes became the third generation of the Rhodes family to play professional cricket when he made his debut in 2016 aged 22.
He followed in the footsteps of his grandfather Billy Rhodes who played for Nottinghamshire County and father Steve, former director of cricket at Worcestershire County.
Having played for Worcestershire County Cricket Club and Leicestershire County Cricket Club, George still plays as a professional for Suffolk and is an invaluable member of local Birmingham Premier League cricket club, Barnards Green.
Alongside his successful cricketing career, All-Rounder George has mentored young players in the UK as well as further afield in Australia and New Zealand.
Now he is looking forward to sharing his knowledge and expertise with Malvern College’s talented young players.
“As a young professional I benefitted from the use of the elite facilities at Malvern College, and now as a coach it is a privilege to have these on site.
“I feel I have an opportunity to develop and enhance the delivery of the school’s high-quality cricket programme, which I am extremely excited about.
“As one of the UK’s top performing cricketing schools Malvern College has produced a number of elite cricketers that have gone on to achieve great success.
“I’m delighted to have the opportunity to coach the next generation of cricketing greats,” added George.
Lee Hilton, director of sport at the school is delighted to welcome George to their team of coaches.
“Our pupils are in the fortunate position of being able to learn from a team of sports professionals, many of whom who come from a background of elite level sport.
