Darts stars to step up to the oche in Malvern

FOUR of the world’s top darts players are set to come to Malvern later this year.

Ian White, Steve Beaton, Justin Pipe and Ledbury’s own Terry Jenkins will be facing off against each other as well as lucky fans at Malvern Cube in September.

Spectators will be selected through a raffle prize draw on the night to challenge the pros who are all in or around the PDC’s current top 20.

They will also get their own ‘walk-on’ while MC John Fowler calls them out to the stage.

The event has been organised by local darts player Russell Petty and Alan Loveridge who works alongside Terry Jenkins on the tour.

The pair said if the night proved a success they may consider bringing a ‘Legends Tour’ to the town next year.

Alan, from Malvern, said: “We thought it would be a great idea to bring something like this to Malvern as there has never been anything like this in the town before.

“Terry has a massive following around this area and has played in Malvern before but there has never been anything on this scale.

“There has never been a sports celebrity come to the town who you can rub shoulders with like you can with darts players.

“The guys that will be there are some of the friendliest characters on tour and they will be chatting to people like they are their mates. It is a buzz for the spectators.”

Russell, who plays in the Malvern Darts League, added: “Darts is getting quite big in Malvern now. There has been the odd exhibition in pubs with maybe one or two players but nothing like this which will be a proper darts night with the walk-ons and the 180 placards.

“If it goes well we will look to do another one next year with some of the legends of the game, and so far ticket sales have gone very well.”

The event will take place on Saturday, September 5. There are standard tickets available as well as VIP entries which will include a meet and greet with the pros.

Business owners interested in appearing in the event programme have also been encouraged to get in touch with organisers.
