Defib thought to have been stolen from Malvern's Coach House Theatre had actually been used to save a life

BOSSES at a Malvern theatre who were concerned that a defibrillator had gone missing from the outside of the building not only had it returned, but were thanked as it had saved a life, writes Arun Mohammed.

It all began when staff at the Coach House Theatre noticed the life-saving device was missing and feared it had been stolen.

The defib was in a locked cabinet that could only be opened by someone who had the combination needed to get in.

So, the theatre got in touch with West Midlands Ambulance Service to see if it was aware of anything and found it had been used for its purpose.

Last Wednesday the defib was back in its rightful place on the outside of the theatre and its whereabouts were revealed.

A group of emergency paramedics had opened the cabinet, using the code, and had saved a patient’s life.

The defibrillator was used to resuscitate a resident in the centre of Malvern.

The box was originally installed to an outside wall after a near fatal incident during a performance some time ago.

In order to prevent any panic in future situations the ambulance service is now installing a new automated service which will notify people when defibs have been used and when they will be returned.
