Dentists hoping to clean up for charity

Malvern Editorial 24th Apr, 2014 Updated: 20th Oct, 2016

A MALVERN dentist will be hoping for a clean ride as he gears up to complete an epic nine-day cycle challenge for charity.

David Watson from Beacon Dental Care on Pickersleigh Road is set to begin the challenge at John O’Groats in the north east of Scotland before heading south towards the much-anticipated finish line in Land’s End in England.

The dentist hopes to help raise £1,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support after the ride which starts on Saturday, May 10.

The gruelling 874 mile ride is being organised by Denplan – the UK’s leading dental payment plan specialist – and David will be joined by 29 other dentists from the company also doing the challenge.

Mr Watson said: “Training for this ride has been tricky, especially trying to fit it around working at the practice and spending time with my family, but it’s worth it just to raise money for such a brilliant charity.

“Although I enjoy cycling, I don’t consider myself a serious roadie – I’m keen but slow! I’ve taken part in a few mountain bike races in the past, but I’ve never done anything on this scale before.

“Although I’ve been feeling very anxious about taking on such a big challenge, my patients have been so generous with their sponsorship contributions, meaning that I’m now well on my way towards reaching my sponsorship target of £1,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

“I regularly work with several charities and this project fits with my general philosophy very well.

“We all know someone who has been affected by cancer and Macmillan is a brilliant charity that provides vital medical, emotional, practical and financial support to families.”
